Fidelity Labs takes the long view to examine technologies years before they become mainstream and helps the firms innovate


  • Fidelity Labs is officially known as Fidelity Center for Applied Technology (FCAT)
  • Fidelity Labs has offices in San Francisco, North Carolina, Europe (Dublin) and China, where they identify new ideas from startups, academia, venture capitalists and big company labs
  • On the academic side, they have partnerships with Berkeley and Stanford in San Francisco, MIT in Boston, and Trinity in Dublin
  • On the internal side, they cater to requests such as a business unit figuring out cloud computing or big data, or connecting them to the thought leaders
  • There are 75 people globally in the Fidelity Labs team. Often they partner with a business unit on a project and developers, QA people, etc.
  • They pull in more external information, from market analysts to university research partnerships, to take a more experimental, futuristic, and big picture-oriented look at the possible uses and impact of new technology
